The chicken or the egg?

When asked which came first - the chicken or the egg - most will struggle for an answer. But when asked what came first your website address or company name, most will answer the latter.

 However, when Simon Toseland and Chris Billson formed the commercial property agency, prop-search.com just over two years ago they decided buck this trend and to select a domain name first.

 Simon Toseland, a Director of prop-search, explained: "Our 25 years experience of working within the commercial property market led us to believe that to excel in today’s virtual world, we should be more focused on applicants. Hence prop-search.com seemed the obvious choice, a more memorable name built around what businesses want to do - search for property."

 This philosophy now appears to be paying dividends with the site now averaging in excess of 4,000 hits a day. Recent data also shows that the busiest times for ‘property shopping’ appear to be first thing in the morning with another peak at around 9.00pm - confirming that applicants are indeed using the site as envisaged. Records also reveal that applicants stay on line for between 5-15 minutes.

 As well as applicants visiting the prop-search website by searching directly under the domain name, nearly a quarter of visitors have come via internet search engines. Since launching the company on social networking sites, such as Twitter and Linkedin, this has also provided prop-search with additional channels for successful marketing.
