Highly commended at business awards ceremony

Commercial property agent Prop-Search has recently been Highly Commended in the Midlands Insider Business Awards.

The Awards, held at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel, gathered more than 500 of the region’s top professionals; developers, agents, architects and more to celebrate the East Midlands’s achievements over the last 12 months.  Hosted by broadcaster Mark Durden-Smith, the black-tie evening also featured speeches from local professionals on the opportunities in uncertainty - Brexit Britain being an opportunity for the East Midlands and the chance to start marketing the region as a single investable opportunity.

The Agent of the Year category invited entries from agents who have made a real impact on the region’s property industry and who played an integral role in the delivery of key schemes.

The Judges decided that Prop-Search should be Highly Commended for playing an instrumental role in assembling a vision for the redevelopment of a 3.37 acre former brownfield industrial site in Wellingborough and presenting this to leading regeneration specialist St Modwen.  Planning was subsequently secured for the development of a new 35,000 sq ft retail park, including a 22,500 sq ft Lidl supermarket, 4,000 sq ft McDonalds restaurant and 8,000 sq ft of retail units let to Subway, Starbucks, Domino’s Pizza and HSL.  The completed scheme generated some 90 new jobs with a value in excess of £4m.

Simon Toseland, a Director of Prop-Search, said: “It is great to see our work recognised in this award.  This development was our vision, delivered through a close working relationship with St Modwen and a detailed understanding of occupier requirements.  The whole team should be pleased and proud of this result.”

The agent also acquired a 3.5 acre site on Brackmills Industrial Estate in Northampton on behalf of Tungsten Properties.  Planning permission was subsequently secured for the development of 67,200 sq ft, including trade counter, retail and warehouse units.  Prior to obtaining the required planning consent, 62% of the trade counter/retail units were pre-let - again reinforcing Prop-Search’s understanding of occupier demand locally - leading to the scheme being forward funded by an institutional pension fund.

Prop-Search was also recognised for the freehold sale of a 93,000 sq ft warehouse headquarters in Kettering, purpose-built for Sir Roger Martin some 10 years ago for his then company Index Books.  The UK’s largest online retailer of tiles, Walls and Floors Limited purchased the facility, occupying 4.41 acres, for a figure approaching £6 million, having previously occupied the property on a leasehold basis.
